Why The Great Was Cancelled By Hulu After Season 3

Hulu’s alternate history series The Great was canceled after three seasons, and the streamer’s decision to ax the show has raised questions about its reasons for doing so. The series was loosely based on Catherine the Great’s (Elle Fanning) rise to power in Russia after marrying Emperor Peter III (Nicholas Hoult). Although The Great wasn’t always historically accurate, its biting satire was usually on the mark. The plots and schemes Catherine and her advisors devised were endlessly fun to watch. The Great was a fan-favorite streaming series and received positive reviews, which made its cancellation all the more surprising.
