Life Style
Q&A: How do you choose art and accessories? Ask a hip design historian.

Emily Evans Eerdmans is a New York design historian, art consultant and founder of Eerdmans, a fine and decorative arts gallery. She is the author of several books including the newly published Mario Buatta: Anatomy of a Decorator, which chronicles the life and style of the late Mario Buatta, one of America’s most famous designers known as the “Prince of Chintz.” Eerdmans co-authored Buatta’s 2013 book on his 50-year career and oversaw the dispersal of his estate, including organizing the 2020 auction of his items at Sotheby’s. Ask her what was the secret of Mario Buatta’s accessorizing philosophy, how to do maximalism with restraint and how to choose art to complement your style and interiors?
